So, I didn’t know I wasn’t feeling like myself until I actually started to feel like myself again.
Now, stay with me.
Pregnancy and motherhood is a lot of sacrifice. You are using your body to grow and nourish a baby to bring them to this earth. After that? You still are giving up your body for months at a time for the needs of your baby. The woman’s body is designed specifically to bear children… so much goes on through this process. Even just the rush of hormones that fluctuate the first few weeks of postpartum is a lot!
Every woman is so different, so recovery won’t be the same. For me? I am 6 months postpartum and I just started to feel “normal” again. One day, my friend complimented how I dressed. Without even thinking, I replied, “Thanks! I think I’m starting to feel like myself again!”
Honestly? That took me by surprise. I am actually starting to feel like myself again. My body is regulating itself from pregnancy and childbirth and I am starting to feel… ok! Like my body is not a stranger anymore.
I write this to encourage you. Be patient with yourself. In woman’s healthcare, it’s often written off as you should feel “back to normal” by 6-8 weeks. Honestly, almost all the mom’s I’ve talked to about this have said a similar thing to what I’m writing about now.
It took me months.
Don’t let people put a timeline on your healing. It’s your body. It’s your journey. No one can dictate how quick you should “feel normal” or be healed by what you’ve gone through. Take your time, do what you need to do and allow yourself to truly heal.
